🌍 Global Channels

We've automatically added you to some exciting channels that are easy to find at the top of your channel navigation. Click on the little arrows to delve into each one:

⚠️ Note: Keep our global channels relevant by using location-specific channels for local posts.

🦸‍♀️ Volunteer Channels

🫖 Networking Channels

🎯Topic-Specific Channels

Our topic-specific channels are meant for everyone who is working in a specific humanitarian sector or is simply interested in chatting and learning more about a certain topic.

Inside each topic, ask questions; post articles, books, and films; ask questions to learn more, and post or find jobs related to that sector.

Below you will find the channels we have created in this category so far. If you feel like a topic is missing, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us!

📍Location-Specific Channels

For local connections, explore our #geo-[city/region/country] channels! Feel a part of the HOPE Community, wherever you are, and don't hesitate to request new channels for your area - where your home is, the regions that you work in, or where you travel to.

Instead of creating a channel for each location right away, we are creating channels for broader regions rather than individual locations. Based on our surveys, we will create a channel for a specific location, but also, please feel free to request the creation of a specific location by messaging @Angela Ng on Slack!

Click on the arrows below to see all the geo-specific channels so far.

<aside> 💡 Reminder: You can find any of these channels by using the Slack channel search. Feel free to send a message to @Angela Ng via Slack anytime in case you have any trouble finding or joining channels, or for any questions about Slack in general.

<aside> ❌ Before posting, please take a peek at the topic of the channel you are posting in (at the very top of your Slack window, to the right of the channel name) and ask yourself if it’s the best spot for your post (i.e. is your content best suited for this channel?). Please avoid cross-posting to more than two channels because it can lead to notification overload without adding new value (for example, one in location-specific and one in a general chat). When in doubt about where to post, feel free to reach out to us!

👥 Networking

There are so many people in the world who are doing amazing things! Here are some of the ways that you can connect with each other.

<aside> 💡 Write an introduction in the #01_introductions channel!

Who are you? Why are you here? What are you interested in? Where are you located? What topic areas are you interested in or currently working/volunteering in?

👉 Pro Tip: Break it up so people can easily digest it! Feel free to copy and paste the below into an intro, choosing which topics you want to talk about!

<aside> ☕ Sign up for weekly introductions! How it works: every week, we will connect you with a new Humans of Project Earth member if you join the channel #virtual-tea. The app will randomly match people who join the app with each other!

👉 Pro Tip: Worried you might not have the bandwidth for a coffee chat every week? No problem at all! Once you sign up, every week you will be asked to confirm your availability for the week ahead. Only if you opt-in you will be connected with another member. If you have a busy week ahead, you can simply skip it.

<aside> 🏡 Find your local community in our location-specific channels on Slack! All of these channels follow the same naming convention: #geo-[city/region/country] You can find an overview of all location-specific channels in our Slack Guide. Going to an event in your city and want to let other members know? Looking for co-working buddies? Just moved and want to make friends in your new neighborhood? Post in your city channel! :)

👉 Pro Tip: Location-specific channels can also be helpful when you are traveling and would like to connect with the local Humans of Project Earth Community at your destination!
